Small Business Development Center History

The Small Business Development Center Program has assisted small business owners for 20 years. There are over 1,000 Small Business Development Centers in the United States.

Eastern Kentucky University has hosted a SBDC since 1988. The center serves a 15-county area in eastern and south central Kentucky, including Adair, Casey, Clinton, Estill, Garrard, Jackson, Laurel, Lincoln, Madison, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell, Wayne and Whitley Counties.

The EKU SBDC office is located in the Business and Technololgy Center on the EKU campus in Richmond and also operates a satellite office in Somerset, Kentucky. The program is an outreach service of EKU's College of Business & Technology and is operated in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Testimonials:

"Starting and growing a business doesn't come with an instructional manual. That's why help from folks with professional experience is invaluable during these hard and trying times."

"Thanks to the EKU SBDC, membership in our craft co-op is increasing and, for the first time in many years, we are realizing a profit. We have a long way to go, but with expert assistance from SBDC, we know we'll get there."
